Data Collection & How We Use It

Last updated:

A plain-English summary of exactly what we collect, where it goes, who can see it, and what we never do with it. For the full legal version, read our Privacy Notice.

The short version: We collect only what you type into our forms. We store it securely in Ireland. We use it only to contact you about Unilume. We share it with nobody except the three service providers needed to run this website. You can ask us to delete it at any time.

1.What We Collect

If you are a student or prospective user

When you fill in the individual interest form, we receive:

  • –Your name
  • –Your email address
  • –Whether you are a current university student (yes or no)
  • –Your university name, if you said you are a current student
  • –What you are interested in (early access, staying updated, or a description in your own words)

If you are from a university or institution

When you fill in the institution enquiry form, we receive:

  • –Your name
  • –Your institution's name
  • –Your work email address
  • –What you are looking for (a consultation, a demo, a general enquiry, or something in your own words)
  • –Your institution's approximate student population (optional)

Technical data

Our server briefly sees your IP address when you submit a form. This is used only to enforce a rate limit (no more than three submissions per hour per address) to prevent automated abuse. Your IP address is never stored in our database; it exists only in temporary server memory and is discarded when the server restarts.

2.Where Your Data Goes

When you submit a form, two things happen:

  1. 1.Your submission is saved to a MongoDB database hosted on Amazon Web Services in Ireland (AWS region eu-west-1). We chose Ireland so your data stays within the EEA, which carries strong data protection standards under UK GDPR adequacy decisions.
  2. 2.You receive a confirmation email and we receive an internal notification email. Both are delivered via Resend, a transactional email service based in the United States under Standard Contractual Clauses.

That is the complete picture. Your data does not go anywhere else.

3.Our Service Providers and Their Policies

We use the following service providers to operate this website. Each acts as a data processor on our behalf and is bound by appropriate data processing agreements:

Amazon Web Services (AWS)Cloud infrastructure hosting the MongoDB database in Irelandaws.amazon.com/privacy

4.What We Use It For

  • –To send you a confirmation that we received your submission
  • –To contact you when Unilume launches or when there are relevant updates
  • –To understand who our early audience is, for example which universities students attend or what kind of institutions are interested, so we can build the right product
  • –To prevent abuse of our contact forms through rate limiting

We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, automated decision-making, or any purpose unrelated to Unilume.

5.What We Never Do

  • –We never sell your data
  • –We never share your data with advertisers, data brokers, or any organisation beyond our essential service providers listed above
  • –We never share individual student data with universities. The Unilume product is built on the principle that universities receive only anonymised cohort-level data and can never identify individual students.
  • –We never use your email for marketing unrelated to Unilume
  • –We never transfer your data outside the UK or EEA without appropriate safeguards (Standard Contractual Clauses apply for transfers to Resend and Vercel in the United States)
  • –We never run analytics tracking on this website. We cannot see which pages you visited, how long you stayed, or how you navigated the site.

6.How Long We Keep It

We keep your form submission for up to three years from the date you submitted it, or until you ask us to delete it, whichever comes first. When Unilume launches, we will contact you and give you a clear choice about whether you want to remain on our list.

7.Your Choices

Email us at info@unilume.co.uk at any time to:

  • –Ask what data we hold about you
  • –Ask us to correct anything that is wrong
  • –Ask us to delete everything we hold about you
  • –Ask us to stop contacting you
  • –Request a portable copy of your data

We will respond within one calendar month. If you are unhappy with how we handle your request, you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

8.The Interactive Experience on This Website

The animated crystal effects on this website save a small amount of state to your browser's localStorage, for example which crystals you have activated. This data never leaves your device and is never sent to us. Clearing your browser site data removes it.

We do not run analytics on this website. We cannot see which pages you visited or how long you spent on the site.

9.GoDaddy and Domain-Level Data

Our domain (unilume.co.uk) is registered with and managed by GoDaddy. When your browser resolves our domain name (which happens automatically when you type our URL), GoDaddy's DNS infrastructure processes that query. GoDaddy may collect analytics and usage data related to domain activity independent of the website code we operate.

This is outside our control and is governed by GoDaddy's own privacy policy at godaddy.com/legal/agreements/privacy-policy.
